"The design of the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, a columned rotunda reminiscent of Rome's Pantheon, is fitting for the man who introduced this classic architectural style to the United States. The domed interior contains a 19-foot bronze statue of Jefferson on a pedestal of black Minnesota granite. Sculptor Rudulph Evans depicted Jefferson wearing a fur-collared coat given to him by his close friend, the Polish general Thaddeus Kosciuczko.
